Participants in the I-Rise family financial empowerment program, called partners, put the program’s focus on growth into practice by helping Michigan Urban Farming Initiative prepare their fields for a successful growing season.
Families who participate in the I-Rise family empowerment program at the Boll, Farmington, Lakeshore and Downriver branches joined forces to raise money for families who are struggling. A team of 12 walkers participated in the Wayne Metro Community Action Agency’s annual “Walk for Warmth” at Ford Field. They raised more than $125 to help families pay their heating bills this winter.
Thanks to a group of families from the I Rise-Family Empowerment Program, a Detroit neighborhood now has several new trees to enjoy, and the families themselves have the satisfaction of making the community a more pleasant place to be. The tree planting happened through a community service even with the Greening of Detroit.
Twenty families who use the Y’s child care facilities are getting a chance to learn how to dream big — and make those dreams a reality — with a new family financial empowerment program that uses life coaching and motivational forums to help them identify and reach their goals.
In some way or another, our lives have been touched by the three things that make the Y community so strong: youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. By listening to each other's stories, we're able to catch a glimpse of all the hope, strength, and determination across southeast Michigan and how everyone's living the Y's values.
