Medicare Fitness Programs at the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit

As a non-profit, the Y makes every effort to provide affordable membership access to active older adults.

The YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit currently accepts the following Medicare Fitness Programs:

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (This program will end 12/31/2024)
  • Silver&Fit
  • FitOn
  • Renew Active/OnePass

We will offer all current Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Medicare Advantage members the exclusive Y Legacy membership, a deeply discounted, all-access membership for $27 monthly. This is 50% off the standard individual membership rate.

What changed in 2025?

As of January 1, 2025, BCBSM will no longer offer a YMCA membership benefit to their Medicare Advantage members. Contact BCBSM for information about about out fitness options.

The YMCA will accept: Silver&Fit, FitOn and Renew Active/OnePass for Medicare-funded fitness programs.

What does this mean for BCBSM members?

BCBSM Members will need to adjust their memberships before the new year. Members can enroll in the Y Legacy Membership for a reduced rate or enroll in of the three Medicare fitness programs we support: Silver&Fit, FitOn and Renew Active/OnePass. Availability varies by health insurance provider. Contact your health insurer to learn which Medicare fitness program they can offer you.

What are the new options for Medicare fitness members?

Our Medicare Fitness Members are a significant and valued part of the YMCA community, and we hope they will choose to stay with us. In addition to Silver&Fit, FitOn and Renew Active/OnePass, we are offering an exclusive membership just for current YMCA BCBSM Medicare Advantage Members; the Y Legacy Membership.

What does the Y Legacy Membership cost?

This deeply discounted, all-access membership will cost $27 a month, half of the standard membership price.  Adult+1 will be $41.50 a month. Financial assistance is also available based on need.

Why did memberships change in 2025?

The YMCA was notified by BCBSM that they will no longer provide YMCA membership as a direct pay benefit for BCBSM Medicare Advantage Members. Members can contact BCBSM for other fitness options.

How can members update their memberships?

Will there be a disruption in benefits?
