Temperatures are dipping, and winter is rounding the corner. With this in mind, two Y employees set out on a mission to provide coats to people in need.
Boll Family YMCA Personal Trainer William Kim and Welcome Center Employee Eli Sullivan ran a winter clothing a coat drive, setting up collection boxes all over Detroit, including the lobby of the Boll Family YMCA. Over 100 coats were collected, as well as 75 hats, gloves and scarves.
These collections will benefit three area organizations, including Haven, which provides shelter and counseling to those who have left abusive homes; Mariners Inn, which provides shelter and treatment to men who are battling substance abuse; and Mercy Primary Care Center, which provides medical care to the uninsured and under-insured and supplies homeless individuals and families with showers, clothing and resources to seek help.
