Welcome Back YMCA Members,

We are excited to announce that we are re-opening our YMCA’s wellness operations at reduced capacity with a host of safety protocols as detailed by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. Click MDHHS to learn more.

We thank you, in advance, for your patience as we work to adhere to all the new policies and procedures we receive on a continuous basis. We will open our facilities, programs and activities in stages. Not all locations and services will be available immediately.  Watch the welcome back video here.

Member Action Items:

All members will be required to sign a waiver and code of conduct prior to accessing Y wellness services. Please login into your YMCA online registration account and sign your waiver prior to your YMCA visit. Your YMCA login is your email address where you received this communication.

All memberships are association-wide memberships. This means all members can access any YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit location as each re-opens.

YMCA Membership Rate Updates:

We have lowered dues for the remainder of 2020 through 2021 for most of our members, retroactively effective May 16, 2020. The only membership rates that were not reduced were those that are part of a special discount program.

Our initial operating hours will be 6:30am to 8:00pm Monday – Friday and 9:00am to 2:00pm on Saturdays, closed on Sundays. During the first few weeks only the wellness centers will be open. Indoor group exercise, pools, childwatch, locker rooms etc. will open at a later date as we revamp those services to adhere to safety guidelines. We are planning to start outdoor group exercise later this month, stay tuned.

Please know this schedule may change and we will contact you.

Maintaining Safe Sanitary Spaces:

We have updated all our cleaning processes and adopted wearing PPE and physical distancing best practices to keep you safe when we reopen.

We have prepared a video to share an overview of our new protocols click here.  Please note, as CDC and state guidelines change our policies will be updated. Mask wearing will be required at all times in our YMCAs.

YMCA Operations Update:

Responsibility is one of the Y’s Core Values and we continuously work to be responsible financial stewards. During the ordered closure, we had to make some very difficult decisions to maintain the financial health of our Y. We have permanently closed the Livonia Family YMCA and the Lakeshore Family YMCA and the North Oakland Family YMCA. Both YMCAs have lost over a million dollars in recent years and our Y is no longer generating surplus revenue to subsidize these losses. Additionally, we laid off and partially furloughed over 95% of our staff while we paid medical benefits for all eligible staff during the first three full months of the closure. Despite these aggressive measures, we are pressing forward with the resources we have to fulfill our mission. We are committed to healthy living, child and youth development, family and community.  Please direct any questions or comments to membershiprequest@ymcadetroit.org.

2020 YMCA Community Impact:

On behalf of the families who received over 175,000 meals over the past 200 days and the 3000 children we served in this summer’s programs, thank you for staying with the YMCA.  Please review our impact report for details. Your continued dues payments enabled your Y to meet incredible human needs. We have served metropolitan Detroit since September 27, 1852. It is our aim to serve this community another 168 years. We are truly grateful for your long standing support during these times of great uncertainty. The YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit is a nonprofit community benefit organization and contributions made to us are tax deductible. When we reopen, documentation of your support will be available upon request.

Be safe…we look forward to helping you make every day better, virtually today and in-person real soon. Welcome back to the YMCA. Please direct all questions to membershiprequest@ymcadetroit.org

Again, thank you for being a Y member.

Sincerely,

Helene Weir, CEO
