The ninth month of the Islamic calendar is called Ramadan. It is a time of prayer, fasting, and community within the Islamic faith. Devout Muslims around the world will observe Ramadan beginning sundown tonight until May 1.

This is a time for deepened connection with God. It is the practice of a spiritual and physical cleanse connected to the sacred text of the Quran. The end of Ramadan culminates in a communal breaking of the fast called Eid-ul-fitr. Eid ul fitr is a collective family celebration of reflection, acts of service, prayer, food and fun. During this time of year you may notice homes in your neighborhood with festive lights. This signifies families who are celebrating Ramadan.

May those of you observing Ramadan find peace and light to guide your life’s path.

Ramadan Mubarak!
