Chair Yoga
A gentle yoga that modifies traditional yoga poses to be done while
seated in a chair. Suitable for all fitness levels.
This gentle yoga class is designed for all fitness levels, focusing
on slow, gentle movements and breathwork, to promote relaxation,
flexibility and body awareness to harmonize the body and spirit.
Y Day at the Detroit Opera House: Rooftop Yoga Edition
Experience a unique yoga session on the rooftop of the iconic
Detroit Opera House, hosted by the YMCA. Enjoy the views, breathe
in the city energy, and flow through an all-levels class in this
unforgettable setting. Don’t miss this one-of-a-kind community
event series!
Parking is available at the Detroit Opera House for
participants of this event only. Please enter the surface lot
from John R Street (near 327 John R Street).
Yin yoga is a slower paced, yet challenging practice that focuses
on deeper, longer stretching and longer held postures (ansanas) to
target deep connective tissues while promoting flexibility,
mobility and a deeper mind body connection.
This class offers all the benefits of your usual yoga class by
modifying poses with a yoga block, straps, and chairs, you can
reduce stress and improve flexibility, balance, posture,
strength, and mind-body awareness. It’s ideal for people with
limited mobility, active seniors, or someone getting back into an
exercise program.
This class is a unique Yoga style that adapts yoga positions and
poses through creative use of a chair. The chair replaces the Yoga
mat and becomes an extension of the body. Chair Yoga is suitable
for all ages, fitness levels and physical conditions.
Hatha yoga class will involve a set of poses, breathing techniques
and a dedicated relaxation/meditation segment. Hatha yoga is
practised more slowly and with more static holds than a Vinyasa
flow or Ashtanga class. Each poses will generally be held for a
least three breaths, and poses will be on the floor and standing.
Hatha yoga practitioners have demonstrated the following benefits
in studies: better sleep; reduced stress; improved balance and core
strength; relieved neck and back pain; improved flexibility and
enhanced mindfulness.
Yoga with a strong emphasis on alignment, moving in a mindful
manner with the breath at a slow to moderate pace. Poses are held
long enough to adjust toward optimal alignment. Some poses are more
challenging, but all are taught with modifications and props to
make them more accessible to all levels of experience.
A Vinyasa class consists of breath-synchronized movements that
connect to each other in order to create a flow. In contrast to the
more athletic, intense style of Ashtanga, Vinyasa emphasizes the
link between body movements, along with the powerful use of the
breath.
This is a deep, soft, yet challenging practice that focuses on
deeper, longer stretching and holding postures to help open the
lower back, hips and sacrum. This guided flowing class helps work
with the posture to open and heal sciatica, lower back and hip
muscles and joints.
Yoga Flow is a dynamic, breath-driven class that moves smoothly
from pose to pose, improving strength, flexibility, and balance.
Modifications are offered for all levels.
This class offers all the benefits of your usual Yoga class by

reduce stress and improve flexibility, balance, posture, strength,
and mind-body awareness.
An ancient spiritual practice that involves meditation and focused
breathing while an individual moves through a series of stylized
posture. In this class you will move with the rhythm of breath
which will calm the mind.
