Chair Yoga

Chair yoga will offer an approachable and relaxed class setting for members. All poses and movements will be done in a seated position, and the instructor will focus on breathing, flexibility, and range of motion exercises. The class will encompass mind, body, and spirit and will leave you feeling refreshed for your day ahead!

Chair Yoga at South Oakland Family YMCA
Move your whole body through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses. Chair support is offered to safely perform postures to increase flexibility, balance, and range of movement. Restorative breathing exercises and a final relaxation will promote stress reduction and mental clarity. Please bring your own towel and we encourage you to bring your own equipment.

Class begins with 15 minutes of core exercises and transitions to 45 minutes of gentle mat yoga, with seated and standing stretches.
A strong core is the foundation to creating stability through our entire body and yoga helps to reduce stress and increases strength and flexibility.

This gentle yoga class is designed for all fitness levels, focusing on slow, gentle movements and breathwork, to promote relaxation, flexibility and body awareness to harmonize the body and spirit.

With a dynamic, fast paced, and energetic approach to yoga, this class focuses on building strength and balance. Prepare to work up a sweat while advancing your yoga practice. Light weights are used, but optional.

Slow Flow Yoga
Slow Flow Yoga at Birmingham Family YMCA
Yoga with a strong emphasis on alignment, moving in a mindful manner with the breath at a slow to moderate pace. Poses are held long enough to adjust toward optimal alignment. Some poses are more challenging, but all are taught with modifications and props to make them more accessible to all levels of experience.
