In Y Gymnastics, students are introduced to equipment, proper form and safety, and developmentally-appropriate gymnastics skills.
Preschool Gymnastics & Dance
No experience is necessary for this introduction to gymnastics for preschoolers. Students are introduced to equipment, proper form and safety, and basic gymnastics skills including forward and backward rolls, handstands, cartwheels and basic skills on equipment.
Beginner Ballet
Beginner Ballet at Boll Family YMCA
Twirl, leap, and tiptoe into the magical world of ballet! In this beginner-friendly class, young dancers will learn basic ballet steps, positions, and simple routines—all while building balance, coordination, and confidence. With playful music, encouraging instruction, and plenty of room for creativity, this is the perfect place for kids to develop a love for dance in a fun, supportive setting. No previous dance experience needed—just bring your energy and imagination!

Gymnastics – Mighty Mites at Birmingham Family YMCA
No experience is necessary for this structured gymnastics experience. Gymnasts are introduced to equipment, proper form and safety while working on improving their gross motor skills. This Instructor lead class is Parent On-Demand in the YMCA to help your gymnast transition to an autonomous learning environment.
Parents must remain in the gymnasium on the benches to assist if necessary.

Gymnastics – Parent/Child Gymnastics Exploration at Birmingham Family YMCA
No experience necessary for this Parent/Child gymnastics exploration that builds your gymnast’s coordination, motor skills and core strength. This instructor lead class is parent hands-on to help your gymnast learn the principles of gymnastics. The use of select gymnastics equipment provides a fun, interesting and exciting learning environment for both parent and child.
Parents are required to participate in the full class with their child.

No experience is necessary for this introduction to gymnastics. The Advanced Class is for gymnasts who have mastered the Intermediate Class skills. This class is the next step in the BYG Development Program and introduces new skills with a continued focus on building fundamentals, strength, and flexibility.
Prerequisite: Proficient Intermediate Class skills or speak with an Instructor for exceptions. Note: key skills will be evaluated on the first day of class to ensure gymnasts are enrolled in the most productive learning environment.

This parent-child class is the perfect introduction to tumbling for your little one. With the guidance of an instructor and the support of a parent or caregiver, children explore movement, balance, and coordination in a fun, interactive environment.

Tiny Tumbling is a fun and active introduction to gymnastics designed just for young children. This class focuses on building confidence, coordination, and gross motor skills through age-appropriate activities.

This introductory tumbling class welcomes all skill levels. Participants will be divided into groups based on experience to ensure everyone is appropriately challenged—whether it’s your child’s first time or they’ve tumbled before.
Kids will learn the basics of gymnastics in a fun, supportive environment. Classes focus on proper form, equipment use, and safety while building foundational skills like safety landings, forward rolls, and more. In addition to tumbling techniques, children will develop gross motor skills through activities such as running, jumping, and balancing.
