Volunteer Opportunity: Fresh Baskets Meal Distribution

The Thanksgiving Fresh Basket Program provides hundreds of holiday meals for individuals and families across Metro Detroit. Baskets are filled with fresh produce, pantry items, and other ingredients such as eggs and butter to prepare a variety of Thanksgiving dishes.

Event Details

Many volunteers are needed to support this large event. We need your support and time to pack baskets, deliver baskets, and distribute baskets to families as they come to pick them up.

Times and Activities for Volunteers

Basket Packing & Distribution

Help pack & organize baskets at the South Oakland YMCA from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm.

Basket Delivery To Local Ys

Drive baskets to families and other YMCA locations from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm.

Basket Distribution to Local Families

Assist at YMCA branches from 12:00 to 3:00 pm as families come to pick up their baskets.

Share a Recipe

We invite you to share your culture and traditions through your favorite holiday recipes to inspire our Thanksgiving Fresh Baskets food event for the community. Your cherished dishes can bring joy to others, and we would love to include them in our efforts this year. Please send your recipes by November 10th to help us create a meaningful Thanksgiving for all. Thank you for contributing to the YMCA’s effort to support families in our communities.

Registration for 2024 Fresh Baskets is now closed

Due to high demand, registration and the waitlist to receive a basket are now closed. We will respond to emails received before November 7, 2024, at noon. We look forward to offering Fresh Baskets to the community in 2025.
