Detroit faces its fair share of challenges. However, with great obstacles come opportunities to make a difference. The YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit has served our great city for 165 years, never wavering in our support and always working to strengthen the community.

We are encouraged by two recent articles that shared views of the Motor City on the rise. In this New York Times opinion piece, Joe Nocera talks about how Motown is “getting its groove back” due to the entrepreneurial spirit of companies such as Shinola and Quicken Loans. And in this co-authored USA Today piece, Jamie Dimon, Chairman and CEO of JPMorgan Chase & Co., and Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan explain that Detroit is turning the corner from a city synonymous with urban decay to one that is paving the way for other major cities facing challenges.

Although the path ahead is sure to present challenges, we are excited about the work to be done. Along with the many others who are rallying for our great city, the Y is and always will be serving Detroit with a sharp focus on improving lives.
