MLK Day January 17, 2022

Dr. King once said,

“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?”

As we celebrate 170 years of service to the Metro Detroit area, we invite you to join us in honoring Dr. King’s legacy by committing to serve with us through volunteerism.

Volunteering, regardless if the opportunity is big or small, can make a major impact on those around you and helps keep our communities and personal relationships strong. With our community still recovering following the effects of COVID-19, volunteer work is needed now, more than ever.

Learn more about Dr. King’s legacy through the exhibit City of Hope: Resurrection City and the 1968 Poor People’s Campaign. This exhibit is now on display at the Boll Family YMCA courtesy of the Smithsonian Institution and the National African American Museum of History and Culture.

This exhibition honors the last vision of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He envisioned equal access to economic opportunities and the American dream for every citizen. In our commitment to diversity, inclusion, equity, and global advancement we honor Dr. King’s work as we journey toward becoming a more inclusive, multicultural organization.

Similar to Dr. King, we envision communities where all people can achieve health, gain confidence, make connections and feel secure at every stage of life, regardless of their dimensions of diversity.

See City of Hope on display now until Feb 1, 2022 in the Marlene Boll Gallery at the Boll Family YMCA. You can also learn more about YMCA volunteer opportunities here.

Thanks in advance for your commitment to serve.
