On Sept. 8 from 11 .am. to 3 p.m. the Carls Family YMCA and the Rotary Club of Milford are teaming up to present the Hometown Hero Celebration. It honors first responders of all types (medical, military, police, and fire, among others) and celebrates what makes it so great to live, work, worship and play in Milford. The local chapter of AmVets will present the colors, the US Navy Great Lakes Brass Ambassador Band will be playing, and American flags will be placed along the drive leading to the Carls Family YMCA.
Local heroes will be honored and celebrated in many ways. The Milford Rotary and Chamber of Commerce will present iPad tablets to the Milford Fire Department. Local community veterans will be honored with a Hall of Fame, and a professional photographer is offering veterans and first responders family portraits. The Carls Family YMCA is also presenting the inaugural Whispers of the Y Award, which honors a person who uses their voice in support of the Y.
It’s not all serious reflection, of course: there will be Southern Pork BBQ, ice cream, popcorn, bounce houses for the kids, and the Huron Valley Robotics Team as well as the Milford Fire Department demonstrating their work.
All events are free and open to the public.
