It’s a Y ethos that people treat each other well; living the mission of the YMCA is something people who work at the Y take to heart.
So why do two branches keep squaring off against each other?
Because it’s all in the spirit of good fun and fitness, of course.
The Livonia Y and the Farmington Y are once again challenging each other in The Battle of Farmington Road. This was announced this week in a message on the Livonia Y’s Facebook page. “URGENT NEWS UPDATE:
Scott Harris, Membership Director of the Farmington Family Y has issued a formal challenge to the cyclists of the Livonia Family Y.
“Our members will ride circles around yours,” he promised.
Get your biking shoes on, Livonia. The Battle of Farmington Road returns in September.”
In this “battle,” members log their miles in each branch Wellness Center, and at the end of the month the winner takes home the Battle of Farmington Road Trophy. September’s battle focuses on cycling; others have tracked running, biking or swimming.
The trophy is currently held by Livonia after Farmington winning the first round. The battle is friendly competition between two Y staffers who are friends, and between members who take the challenge to step up their own fitness to show the other branch who’s really committed to healthy living.
The winning branch gets trash-talking rights and the trophy … and the pride of having members who are probably a little more fit than they were at the beginning of the month.
