Why is the YMCA important to the Detroit community?
The Boll Family YMCA is an important institution in downtown Detroit. Before others envisioned the resurgence of the downtown community, the Boll Family YMCA’s leadership invested in providing the community with a modern hub of activity. Simply put, the Boll Family YMCA was at the forefront of downtown Detroit’s redevelopment.
How has the YMCA impacted your life personally?
My active membership with the Boll Family YMCA has given me a means to stay physically fit and healthy at a facility close to my office. Through my morning workouts there, I have cultivated many lasting friendships. It allows me to engage regularly with members of the community of various ages and professions outside of my own.
What’s your favorite memory from your time at the YMCA?
My favorite memories have been when staff and other members so generously helped me train for several half Ironman competitions and cheered my progress.
In one sentence, what does the YMCA mean to you?
The Boll Family YMCA is a pristine facility in downtown Detroit where I can stay fit while surrounded by friendly individuals and staff who share my passion for fitness.
If you had to describe the YMCA community in three words, what would they be?
Friendly. Helpful. Supportive.
