Judge David Allen

To celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Boll Family YMCA, we’ve gathered 20 honorees: members and staff, donors and volunteers, parents and kids, lifters and learners. Woven together, their stories compose the tapestry that is our Boll Family YMCA community. This is Judge Allen’s story.

My day job is a Judge in Wayne County. I am convinced there is some magic fairy dust that sprinkles over kids and families who walk through the doors of the YMCA that keeps them out of trouble.

My wife and kids have been, and still are, active members of the Y. I’ve met more friends, colleagues and contacts at the Y than anywhere else in my travels. As much as I’ve given the Y in time, treasure and talent.

My membership number for the Boll Y is 001! I was the first person to purchase a membership just prior to Boll opening. The night before the branch opened, I ended up folding all the towels until midnight. I arrived back at 5 a.m. on the day of opening to make sure that I was the first person in the door and the first person to work out at Boll. I am especially proud of a Pewabic tile hanging on the first floor. The tile recognizes my family’s contribution and commitment to the Boll Y.

Outside of family and career, the Y has been the best part of my life.
