To celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Boll Family YMCA, we’ve gathered 20 honorees: members and staff, donors and volunteers, parents and kids, lifters and learners. Woven together, their stories compose the tapestry that is our Boll Family YMCA community. This is Jenny’s story.

Community at the Y looks different for everyone. It could be a group exercise class where people connect and encourage each other, swimmers who meet because they share the same lane, camp kids creating a silly new group identity, or the guys who show up every Sunday for a full-court basketball game.

The Y’s community is about those moments and connections that make you feel like you belong.

The Y has been woven into every part of my adult life. I am the mother of two amazing girls who have experienced so many new things because of the Y. I’ve seen firsthand how their confidence has grown through these experiences and their willingness to try new things.

One of my favorite memories at the Boll Family Y is the day my daughter overcame her fear of going under water. One day, she decided she was ready. The swim instructor was right by her side. She looked at him and nodded then they both went completely underwater! He checked in with her, she nodded again, and then went under five more times! I was crying and cheering with the other Y staff because it was such a huge breakthrough. The Y is about people encouraging each other to discover what they’re capable of.

A place where community comes together to feel safe, supported and enjoy each other.
