The YMCA welcomes everyone and provides a safe, healthy and non-judgmental environment.
Why is the YMCA important to the Detroit community?
The downtown Y welcomes all and provides a safe, healthy and non-judgmental environment.
How has the YMCA impacted your life personally?
The Y has vastly expanded my social network! I now have friendly acquaintances from the pool, plus all of my favorite weekly classes (pilates, total body strength, yoga, max strength and small-group training).
What’s your favorite memory from your time at the YMCA?
The annual Y Day of Giving is a favorite! It’s a day to open your checkbook and give back to the Y. Through donating, I learned that every dollar raised supports a child financially by covering various costs – a week of meals during summer camp, a Y family membership, swim lessons or sending a kid to camp. And, like most corporations, my employer matches the donation dollar for dollar. A win-win for all.
In one sentence, what does the YMCA mean to you?
The pool is my happy place.
If you had to describe the YMCA community in three words, what would they be?
Wholesome. Positive. Supportive
