The YMCA gave me the place and time to continue pursuing physical fitness, health and work as my family grew.
Why is the YMCA important to the Detroit community?
The YMCA is important because it encourages and supports physical fitness for the entire family with its diverse offering of activities under one roof. Parents can engage in physical fitness, while their children can spend time in child watch.
How has the YMCA impacted your life personally?
The YMCA gave me a place and time to continue pursuing physical fitness, health and work as my family grew. When I pursued other necessary activities alone, the Child Development Center and the Child Watch program provided excellent education, socialization and care for my child. My child and I, with the friendly assistance of the staff, bonded while swimming and climbing the rock wall.
What’s your favorite memory from your time at the YMCA?
My child began diving in the deep end of the pool and swimming to the bottom of the deep end before I had ever tried either in my entire life. He encouraged me through his example. I was so proud!
In one sentence, what does the YMCA mean to you?
The YMCA is a place that can accommodate physical fitness and health pursuits throughout the many different phases and changes that we experience in a lifetime.
If you had to describe the YMCA community in three words, what would they be?
Diverse. Proactive. Positive.
