At the Y, children learn basic soccer skills using age-appropriate equipment (i.e. smaller balls and goals for young kids). Players do fun drills and games that teach fundamental soccer skills, such as dribbling, passing and shooting. As players develop, coaches work with the kids on the idea of team play and basic strategy.
At our Ys, kids can play soccer in leagues or clinics. This gives kids more of a chance to learn the game through a developmental process, as our coaches build their confidence in skills, knowledge of the game and understanding of the sport. Our Ys participate in a number of soccer leagues, both Inter-Y and with partner organizations like the United Sports Soccer League and the Michigan State Youth Soccer Association. Soccer leagues build character and instills the values of fair play and teamwork while providing important exercise and soccer skill development. Every kid plays in Y leagues.
