The YMCA is the heartbeat of Detroit.
Why is the YMCA important to the Detroit community?
The YMCA is more than just a place to swim or play basketball. It is a lifeline, a place where kids find mentors, where seniors find companionship and families find support through challenging times.
How has the YMCA impacted your life personally?
It has given me the opportunity to give back to my community and make long lasting relationships with like-minded families.
What’s your favorite memory from the YMCA?
The Taco Fiesta. I was able to meet quite a few different families, and kids, as well as board members and leaders. Although it was a community event, it felt like a family event.
In one sentence what does the YMCA mean to you?
The YMCA is the heartbeat of Detroit, it’s a place where I was seen, lifted and loved into becoming the person I always knew I could be.
If you had to describe the YMCA community in three words, what would they be?
Community. Growth. Opportunity.
