Summer is here—and there’s no better time to step up for your health, literally. Whether you’re taking the stairs at work, hitting the bleachers at your local park, or powering up flights at home, every step counts in our newest YMCA app challenge: the Haiku Stair Climb.

What Is the Haiku Stair Climb?
Inspired by Hawaii’s breathtaking—and famously steep—Haiku Stairs, often called the “Stairway to Heaven,” this challenge dares you to climb 3,922 stairs, the same number found on the iconic trail. While the original Haiku Stairs are off-limits to hikers, we’re bringing the spirit of that epic climb to you—through an approachable, everyday fitness challenge you can complete right here at home.
Why Take the Stairs?
Stair climbing is one of the most effective ways to improve cardiovascular fitness, build leg strength, and boost endurance. Best of all, it’s simple to incorporate into your daily routine—no gym equipment required. Whether you’re walking up your apartment steps, choosing stairs over elevators, or finding creative ways to climb, every step brings you closer to your goal.
