The Y has always been a place where families can play and be active together, and that’s more important than ever. Our Ys offer a variety of Family Fitness programs during the course of the year, giving families fun ways to live healthier and make memories for a lifetime.

Family Time in the Wellness Center

Working out together is a great way to improve your health and strengthen your relationship with your children. Plus, staying active together is a great way to help kids develop healthy habits that they will reap the benefits from throughout their lifetime.

Safety is our highest priority

Wellness Center Children & Teen Orientations

It is essential that our Wellness Centers are a safe place for everyone. To ensure that kids and teens understand how to properly (and safely) use equipment and resources in the Wellness Center, our Ys require that all teens ages 13-17 must go through either a Teen Orientation or FitLinxx appointment before using the wellness center.

Family 5K Running Events

Our Ys offer a variety of running events and triathlon challenges, both indoors and outdoors. We also partner with local organizations to help organize and sponsor events outside of the Y.

  • Plymouth Family YMCA Father’s Day Run  The Plymouth Father’s Day Run is a great event for the entire family and the elite runner. We bring the community together for a day of family fun and fitness, offering a great experience for runners of all ages.
  • Wyandotte River Run  An annual fundraising event for the Downriver Family YMCA’s Annual Kids Campaign, the Wyandotte River Run is a fun run for all ages. The Wyandotte River Run is a part of the Downriver Dual.

Family Cross Training

Family Cross Training classes combine a set of cardiovascular exercises to raise your heart rate and burn calories while adding resistance exercises to tone and sculpt muscles. Exercises are modified so everyone in the family can have fun and work out together.

  • Mommy & Me Cross Training  Parents and children ages 3 to 6. Have fun doing a variety of cardiovascular activities to raise your heart rate and burn calories.
  • Family Cross Training  Parents and children ages 7 and up. A variety of cross training activities provide a fresh exciting workout to keep everyone moving and having fun.

Family Yoga

This fun-filled yoga class features a delightful and engaging story from the world’s wisdom traditions, emphasizing self-confidence and peace. Learn yoga poses, songs, meditation and more, as you move, breathe, relax, and share in other creative activities surrounding a weekly theme. A great way for parents and children of all ages to play together while improving health, literacy, cooperation, and communication!
