Funded by grants from the United Way, the I Rise Family Empowerment Program (I Rise) supports working parents with an innovative combination of career and financial coaching, motivational forums and child care support. By providing a range of resources that are critical to working families, I Rise empowers families to envision more for themselves and then achieve it.

About I Rise

In partnership with the United Way of Southeastern Michigan, I Rise’s goal is to help educated, working parents attain a greater sense of accomplishment through life coaching that combines educational and motivational opportunities while providing child care support.

There are three major components to the program:

  • Personal coaching
  • Monthly motivation forums
  • A child care financial award

Personal Coaching

We have a career and life coach who helps participants clarify personal and professional goals. Our career and life coaching begins with an initial one-hour phone session over the phone. After this initial meeting, the coach will contact participants on a bi-weekly basis by phone to discuss progress towards your goals.

Motivation Forums

At each participating YMCA location (Boll, Farmington and Lakeshore Family YMCAs), we hold monthly family-friendly motivational and informational forums. Our career/life coach conducts the forums, and we also present speakers who address topics crucial to working families.

The forums open with a family style dinner (children and a significant other are welcome to attend). Then our child care staff take children to Y programs so they can enjoy age-appropriate sports/activities. While the children are enjoying themselves, parents can focus on the speaker presentations.

Each forum covers a particular life theme or topic, which may include career advancement, finding your purpose, raising college-bound children, budgeting, resume strategies, and a variety of other topics related to successful family life.

Child Care Financial Award

Y Child Care programs provide high-quality, affordable child care to the families in the area. To support families in the I Rise program, we are providing a child care subsidy based on family’s current financial situation.
