YOUTH SWIM TEAM

Joining a swim team develops confidence and self-discipline in kids. Besides learning new skills, kids build comraderie and enjoy the challenge of racing in the pool.

Y swim teams emphasize the value of competition through teamwork, sportsmanship and doing one's best. Our swim coaches strive to offer a well-rounded, values-centered program for every level of swimmer.

Our Y runs two swim clubs that create swim environments for kids of different age and competitive levels.

Downriver YMCA Gators Swim Club

The Gators Swim Club is our Y’s competitive swim team. Swimmers on the Gators will compete in the Downriver Recreation Swim League. This club is for kids who have decided that swimming is their sport and they want to dedicate more time to developing into competitive swimmers. This club is for kids ages 5-18. Participants will be put in workout groups with kids of similar age and ability.

During swim season, practices are three times per week, running a Wed-Fri-Sat schedule. Practice time on Wednesday and Friday is 6—8pm, and Saturday from 12—2pm.

Dry land practice is 5:30pm-6:15pm (novice), and 6:15pm-7:00pm (advanced).
