Children learn basic basketball skills using age-appropriate equipment (i.e. smaller balls and baskets for preschool ages). They do fun drills and games that teach ball handling and shooting skills. Early in the program, skill work is stressed as they practice, and later the idea of team play will be developed as teams participate in league games.
Rookies Basketball League
Preschool Basketball (Ages 4-7)
The Y is about building the whole child, from the inside out. Rookies Basketball can develop the confidence that comes from learning new skills or from scoring a goal. But most of all, the kids make positive relationships that lead to good sportsmanship.
Inter YMCA Basketball League
Youth Basketball (Ages 8-13)
Inter-YMCA Basketball is a great way for players to learn and master basketball skills while competing in a fun setting. Teams practice at their home branch during the week and play games on Saturdays, competing with other local YMCAs. Kids get to experience “road games,” playing at various YMCAs in the area. Teams are available for ages 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13. No previous basketball experience is necessary.
